At Maher Group, we love nothing more than seeing our clients thrive, and Kai'Mia Community is a wonderful example of an organisation that has stayed true to its purpose while continuing to grow.
Based in Gymea, NSW, Kai'Mia Community has spent the past 50 years serving the Sutherland Shire and Greater Sydney, supporting people through community services, social connection, settlement programs, aged care and youth initiatives. Established in 1975 as Gymea Community Aid and Information Service (GCAIS), the organisation rebranded in 2025 to Kai'Mia Community as part of its 50th anniversary milestone, reflecting a broader and more inclusive vision for the future.
Over the decades, Kai'Mia has grown alongside its community, remaining in step with its changing needs while keeping people at the heart of everything they do. Its work is built around four key pillars:
Getting Settled – supporting newly arrived migrants, refugees and humanitarian entrants through English language classes, employment support, driver licensing access, youth settlement services and cultural connection activities.
Ageing Well – helping seniors remain independent and connected through the Commonwealth Home Support Program, domestic assistance, transport, social outings, and wellness programs via the Healthy Ageing Hub.
Belong & Enjoy – community activities, volunteering, creative workshops and wellbeing programs designed to reduce isolation and strengthen connection.
Building Futures – youth leadership, mentoring and skills development programs helping young people build confidence, resilience and pathways into education and employment.
At its core, Kai'Mia's mission is simple but powerful: improving lives by empowering people to connect with and participate in their communities. Kai'Mia works across generations to help people live independently, feel included, and thrive.
Kai'Mia has grown from a volunteer-run neighbourhood support service into one of the region's leading community organisations, supported by Australian and NSW Government funding, along with community donations and grants.
